Pest alert – flood watch and rats
 Due to the heavier than normal rains we’ve been experiencing, in King and Snohomish counties we have numerous rivers that may be subject to flooding this winter. And there's a particular threat to the Green River valley, due to a limping dam upstream. But there's one ingredient that could add insult to injury - rats, and they can swim.
When a river floods the rats will instinctively head to the highest "ground," which unfortunately may be your home. Rat populations rise exponentially during the summer and fall, and many live outdoors or under our homes & commercial buildings. But if the water level gets high they don't just sit there and drown--they swim! They've been known to be able to tread water for two days. And, when they find something to grasp, they climb up because they are mini-mountaineers and tight-rope walkers. Then, into our homes they go.
