Olio Nuovo
The new just-harvested oils are here!
Not only is the holiday season filled with amazing, soft and supple Italian panettone and Jean Claude's perfect marzipan filled Stollen, it's also the season for Olio Nuovo (or Olio Novello, if you happen to be in southern Italy) - the first of the new-harvest olive oils, straight off the presses.
Olio Nuovo, which means simply "new oil," is made from olives picked during the very first week of the harvest, usually around the end of October. The olives are then pressed and the resulting oil is bottled right away.
After olio nuovo, the next batch of olives becomes Early Harvest Oil. Unlike the nuovo, good producers often do not bottle this immediately, but instead store it in steel containers and only bottle as needed. Finally, the olives used for Late Harvest Oils are picked when the fruit is very ripe, as late as the end of November or beginning of December.
As many of you know, we have been doing the “Celebrate the Harvest, Olio Nuovo” event for as long as we've been around, nearly 15 years. Every year has been a wild ride of new oils, late arrivals, lost shipments. This year is no different; new oil from Italy, our two favorites from California. On a sad note, we will not have any Pianogrillo Olio Nuovo this year.
We apologize, extremely limited supply of all oils this year. Please consider ordering sooner.

Olio Verde
After all these years it's still their oil inside! This new oil is one of the very first Olio Nuovos we have ever had, almost 16 years ago today. And though we have gone back and forth, we have many, many friends who live for this time of year and this oil!

Stocking Stuffers
easy
This year is turning into a big stocking stuffer year.
These days, it seems like stockings are getting bigger. What was once a size 10 is now called a size 6 - and the same seems to be true for everything else as we try to squeeze more from every opportunity we have. So, when a guy who probably wears a size 75 sport coat, is willing to slide down our chimney and leave us presents, it only seems logical to get a bigger stocking.
This year, at Santa's request, we have a cache of goodies that can be brought down the chimney and easily slipped into any stocking. We have a bunch of treats here, though some might need a really big sock!
Depending on the size of your foot, everything mentioned here slides easily into almost any stocking. And, Santa will thank you too!
Click to see what’s easy here and check the side bar of the newsletter today.

Tiburtini Olio Nuovo
There is a reason why Tiburtini has such a following. Every year the oil is different without losing its own character. This Novello is always rich and full, just like you would expect it to be if you were at the farm!

December's New Oil
Always punchy, this year's a tiny bit more mellow than last, but you still know it's "New"! A sharp, tight, olive flavor, it changes mid-stride to a character of "new".
