Makabi and Sons Exotically Flavored Sandwich Cookies

Makabi & Sons!
Exotically Flavored Sandwich Cookies!

It was love at first sight!

These boxes are like works of art. Like the great industrial box designs of Apple, or the elegant boxes of Heritage Shortbread, these slim, simply-styled boxes from Makabi & Sons have the same allure . . . compelling your hands to reach out and hold …

Adorned with just one symbolic image and words top and bottom, the whole is a visual metaphor for what will slide out of the box and into your imagination even before you take your first....

Makabi and Sons Exotically Flavored Sandwich Cookies

It was love at first bite!

This shortbread is really more than a cookie, because sandwiched in between 2 cookies - that’s right two pieces of shortbread in every bite - is a cultural flavor trip for your mouth!

Each delicious cream is designed to match its perfect shortbread. The Masala Chai Tea Shortbread is paired with a happy Vanilla Cream. And the Matcha Tea Shortbread is mated with a wondrous Black Sesame Cream. You get the idea. Image, description, tactile, exposure, bite, crunch, taste, flavor, joy.

Makabi and Sons Exotically Flavored Sandwich Cookies

As you can see it’s not just a flavored shortbread or a cookie with a creamy center. These sandwiched cookies are inspired by travel, by flavors, by romance.

If I could only have one on a dessert island, I do have one I would choose (but I’m not going to tell you). But don’t be tempted to choose just one, because together they are perfection.

Is there one I could live without? Yes, probably. But why would you want to? Each distinct flavor is just that, distinct. It is the contrast that allows me to have a favorite, and without those differences I wouldn’t be able to appreciate each individually. Food is an amazing window to everything.

Laconika Greek Olive Oil
As seen in Forbes!
Laconiko EVOO from Greece

Laconiko has been Best in Show, won many Gold Medals, Silver Medals, 27 top awards since 2009, in many countries around the world. And now Forbes Magazine has written about it!

The brothers, fourth generation olive oil producers, kept the orchards (Peloponnese, Greece) in the family by expanding their market to the US.

For us it is very exciting because we have wanted to find a great Greek oil since we started! There are of course great oils all over the world. To get the very best quality, oils is much harder than one would think, given that as a tourist you can find good oils everywhere. But to get them into the country to sell is a much different story. So having a great oil here is awesome!

Laconiko has a strong color of green and yellow compared to most of the year’s pressing. When sipped, it has a fruity banana start and then dissipates quickly to the back of your mouth. What starts as a subtle tickle turns into a nice burn that creates the cough.

When taken in a mouthful, swirled around before swallowing, not only is the olive present, but it feels like the leaves of the olive tree are there as well. What fun!

Taste 5 Original Umami Paste
Umami! It's the Bomb!
Packed in a Tube.

Don't be fooled and don't look at the ingredients yet. This is a fabulous tasting tube of stuff. It does taste a little fishy and that's because of the anchovy paste, but it's good, it's a good combination of ingredients that we all like.

You would think if you mixed all those ingredients together you would get this weird, fake tasting thing.

But it's not. This umami seasoning has got flavor, it's got taste, it's got mushroom, it's got balsamic vinegar, it even has Parmesan cheese, it's really, really good.

Think a cracker and think beyond. It inspires you to create! To mix and to make life more interesting. Get your tube on!

Sparkling Wine Vinegar Katz
Sparkling Wine!

Katz Vinegar

Champagne or Sparking Wine Vinegar is considered the lightest of vinegars and unfortunately, that usually means mostly acid on the tongue with little of the flavor of the base champagne remaining after production. This delicious champagne vinegar is made slowly, the old fashion way, and that means it's full of flavor.

Katz & Co.'s Sparkling Wine Vinegar is made in Sonoma from high quality sparkling wine stock, mainly chardonnay – so technically, it's a 'sparkling wine' vinegar.

It offers crisp and pleasant acidity, hints of vanilla from the oak and subtle nuances of sweet melon and cucumber in the finish. It is perfect for salads with fresh greens, and marinades as well as a cooking/deglazing liquid.

Summerdown Mint
Summerdown Mint
Chocolate that is just right, right now!

Sometimes minted chocolate is exactly what you want to have in the middle of the night. I am not sure why this happens, it must have something to do with the brain needing food late at night. The mind thinks that mint makes your mouth colder, not sure why this is important. And chocolate has good neurotransmitters that reach your hippocampus and hypothalamus, whatever they are. At the end of the day (double entendre) having Summerdown mint chocolates in hand is just about perfect!

All of Summerdown Mint's products are made with traditional Black Mitcham peppermint - for centuries, the true flavor of England's famed mint, but a variety that died out due to changes in 20th-century farming. After generations, Summerdown reintroduced this variety of mint, thus bringing back the mint's particular flavor - soft and lingering, with a cool, intense flavor.

When your mint is paired perfectly with a tempered couverture chocolate, everything fires in your senses and a good day ends just right.

Yuzu kosho Green
Yuzu Kosho

Awesome, hot, but not hot like you have had before. Yuzu Kosho is a fresh, herby Japanese sweet and spicy relish that we are thrilled to bring to you. It's great for adding a delicious dash of flavor to fish, vegetables, even a turkey sandwich.

You may already have seen it at your favorite sushi spot or noodle house. Occasionally tucked in with the soy sauce, oyster sauce and garlic-chile paste is a jar of a mysterious, pea-green-colored condiment.

Best pork belly ever!

"I slathered this on chunks of pork belly, sousvided it at 65 c for 24 hours and then seared it. It may be best thing I ever cooked, period."

Best cocoa I've ever used

"Believe it or not, I first found out about this cocoa from the Goldie Bear culinary mysteries. I can't remember which one, but I am forever grateful! This is hands down the nest cocoa I've ever used! I don't like it in homemade hot cocoa for some reason, but in every other capacity that I've used it, my recipes have turned out mind blowing!!"

Love this Cocoa Powder

"I use this in baking and put a little in my chocolate smoothie every day. I've tried others, but this is my favorite."

* Sea Salt from Trapani
Sea Salt from Trapani

This is a great everything salt. When you need a handful this is the one for you. Salting pasta water or a side of beef. It's a bit crunchier than some, this salt holds its shape. And it's our lowest priced salt per ounce.

This coarse Sicilian sea salt is a natural complement to fresh raw vegetables, salads, and fish. Use Trapani sea salt to highlight salads, to finish roasts and sauces, or to garnish bruschetta. And we've heard from customers that it's the perfect salt for rimming your margarita glasses! It doesn't just dissolve into salty liquid, and it gives the perfect crunch.

Along the western Sicilian coast from Marsala up to Trapani, protected saltpans have been used to produce coarse sea salt for millennia. The salt is extracted by the natural evaporation of seawater. Passing through a series of big basins, the seawater evaporates and leaves salt. The salt is then raked and dried under the hot Sicilian sun. Clean sea, sun, and wind are the only ingredients used to obtain this unrefined Trapani sea salt, rich in flavor and minerals especially magnesium, calcium and potassium.

! Colomba Easter Cakes
Colomba - the Spring Panettone
This is the Panettone of the spring! The same delicious cake of the holidays arrives this week. Soft, delicious, just right when slathered with butter and toasted. Rip into it with your hands and enjoy! Owe someone a wonderful food gift? This is the treat that you should share!

Just a little bit shorter or less lofty makes it a tiny bit denser and, some say, better than panettone! Let's face it, a cake that takes several days just to rise, than hangs upside down to cool, it's gotta be good!

Beaufort Cheese Beaufort Cheese
The ultimate melted cheese.

I am a great fan of European cheeses

"Especially those from the Alps. One bite of this Beaufort cheese and I am literally transported back to my favorite vacation spot in the alps, like a good cup of dark roasted french brew coffee and a croissant immediately transports me back to Paris. You can taste the little alpine flowers and grasses these lucky cows graze on, that makes the cheese so terrifically appealing."

Grilled Butterflied Leg of Lamb Recipe

I love lamb. Although growing up we always had baked ham for Easter dinner, as an adult I have come to prefer and appreciate lamb as the main feature of our Easter table. And when looking for a fool-proof recipe that reminds me of my childhood, I always turn first to "Cooking for Comfort" by Marian Burros. (Simon & Schuster, 2003.)

Chocolate Almond Mousse Cake Recipe Chocolate Almond Mousse Cake Recipe

Jesse spent two days in our kitchen perfecting this recipe. Not only was it fun to watch Jesse do his work, but we learned a lot as we went along. Jesse has a magic touch when it comes to cakes. This recipe is perfect for a dinner party. It can be made a few days in advance, and frozen in the cake ring until the day of the party. It will definitely look like you just picked the cake up from your local, professional bakery.
