Gourmet Stocking Stuffers for 2019
At this time of time of year we rush to do this...
...and rush to do that, and all the while we feel that we're late. Though it's rare that we are we actually late, it always feels exponentially that way.
This is our annual stocking stuffer newsletter. Though I would say that it has expanded just outside the reaches of a conventional, normal-sized stocking.
These are also perfect hostess gifts to have in your back pocket, just in case you get caught getting invited to Aunt Martha's or Aw'ntee Frances, but no worries because after shopping this list you will always be prepared.
The best part is, you can't over do it, because everything keeps or you can always eat it yourself!
Earliest written history has the first mention of stockings as a “wrapping” for gifts. It is unclear if the stocking came in pairs made of Wooly Mammoth hair or not, and some confusion was set in motion as to the size of said stocking which was much larger than man’s basic foot. Perhaps optimism was the reason.
This perfectly preserved stocking, with the name “Lucy”, was found with most of the contents easily identifiable, including fruitcake.
Today, after years of excessive gift giving (too many Rolls Royce's to name one) and giant trees required just to span the plethora of gifts, we have reverted back in time to filling a comfortable, albeit larger than life, stocking with useful, taste good, satisfying holiday “umami”.
The key to a successful stuffer is to keep in mind the recipient and how and what they enjoy eating. We use the term “agrodolce” sour-sweet as an all-important determiner of treats that will bring a smile to your loved ones. Treat does not just mean sweet, but in fact means joyous consumption that is completely biodegradable.
We have gathered with open arms some of our favorites this year, savory & sweet, taste tested in the shop (with customers just like you) and have included them here.

This is so wonderful
One of our faves this year!
Sea salt with edible flowers. It is so, so pretty in the palm of your hand! It is a fresh field of spring wildflowers in the palm of your hand. It’s a floral salt with a dreamy breath of fresh breeze. Share with the ones you are sweet on or that salty old sailer you know.

Thick, complex, amazing
Essenza Balsamic Vinegar
Pulled from the smallest of the barrels, this essential balsamic is just shy of 12 years. As close to a red seal as you can have at a third the price. With many notes of flavor hidden in every drop, to be exposed as you taste. This is a treat to give, to share and keep!

Harissa
Harissa
In a recent impromptu taste test with customers in the store of different Harissa jars side by side, this Harissa was the choice of everyone. Exclamations of "this has real taste" to "it seems so friendly" to "lots of flavor". We love this hot, not too hot, flavor is the next ketchup here. (It already is in Morocco.)

Black Garlic Smoked
and made into a ketchup!
For the smoky lover in your life...who likes ketchup.
First it is black garlic at the beginning, in the middle and even at the moment you suck your tongue and cheeks in at the end. There is also up front a balsamic vinegar moment. In between those moments there is a tomato puree feeling that is familiar, but not quite ketchup. It is the smokey that is a bear to describe.

The other tuna in a can
Some like this ...
More than the oval tin. My sister for one, she likes As do Mar tuna and for 20 years now she has been getting this in her stocking. Filled with a deeper, often darker fleshed, tuna, it stands out amongst the others with a filling bite. It will feed an army, at least an army of two on a picnic.

Cru Sauvage!
Wild Cocoa 68% Chocolate
This may be the very best wild cocoa bean left growing on the planet! And the Chocolate it produces is mind blowing good. Picked and grown in the same location as it was first found, it is original.
The substantial and harmonious cocoa flavors of the Cru Sauvage bittersweet baking chocolates are well complemented with the freshness of the lemon and the fruitiness of the grapefruit.
The traditional gentle processing method (60 hours conching) unfolds the intense dried prune bouquet and vanilla in its most exquisite way. The exceptionally pleasant fruit acidity and the long-lasting ending make the Cru Sauvage with its cocoa content of 68% a unique experience.

Sorrento Lemon Panettone
BEST EVER!!!
"Do NOT hesitate to purchase this Lemon Panettone!!! I LOVE Lemon Panettone and Sorrento Lemon Panettone-Albertengo is THE BEST!! The luscious flavor is so lemony, the texture is soft and moist and the candied fruit is soft and chewey. I will buy no other Lemon Panettone as I've found the best! I've ordered 4 this year (2010). I intended to give a couple as hostess gifts but I'm re-thinking that idea, ha ha ha. Oh, they freeze well too!! Pre-order NOW, do not hesitate or it will be too late and you'll have to wait another year!
"

One of the Most Delicious Things You'll Ever Taste
"I'm back for my fourth year of ordering these amazing panettones, and they have become an important part of our holiday season. The moment you open one of these lovingly-packaged treats, you will find the aroma to be intoxicating. Try to resist poking your nose in this package over and over again. I simply can't. The rich smell of freshly-baked quality ingredients is amazing, but the best part is yet to come. Disregard any comparisons between panettone and fruitcake. The consistency of the panettone is light & fluffy, and the candied lemons are luscious but subtle. If you are looking for that special holiday gift that will impress the jingle bells off someone, you must try these (but be sure to order one for yourself or you'll regret it)."
