“Levelez
New Chocolate LEVELEZ - very special
from Mexico

What a fun find. These bars are distinct in their own way.

Like all the chocolate we choose to carry, they have a personality that is all their own, a reflection of the person who makes them.

We often taste the foods we have even before we meet the artisans. After all these years, at least when it comes to chocolate, you can meet them in the bar and see the person even before you have a conversation.

In the case of these bars, the complexity is simply shared in their friendliness and straightforward flavor. No tricks, just presence.

Eliza met Silvia, the creator and owner of these LEVELEZ chocolates at the shop last week. Her impression? Just like her chocolate, a knowledgeable, wonderful, fun, vibrant person with a passion for her craft which shines in her chocolate.

“Nordic
Swedish Peppermint Candy Canes
They have arrived - They sell out super duper fast!

Hand bent to look like a shepherd's staff, the candy cane has a history reaching back hundreds of years.

Popular belief is that white sugar sticks were transformed for children who would get restless during the long-winded holiday sermons. And before we had too many gifts under the tree, candy canes hung as gifts for children.

They were truly a treat. Today's wimpy striped sticks are just a peppermint candy stretched to resemble a cane.

Our sturdy Swedish candy canes are nothing like the commercial ones you see at the Five and Dime. They're plump, beautifully bent peppermint sticks, well-worth eating after you've enjoyed them hanging on the tree.

These candy canes are approximately 5.5" tall, from the top of the curve to the bottom of the stem.

Why not give the next best thing, a candy cane! Don't buy just one - buy a dozen!

Pro Tip: Crush them and mix with vanilla ice cream!!!

“Andres
Andre's Leckerli Cookies
Swiss Treat from Missouri

There is something special about these spice cookies! They have this wonderful chewy bite that, for me, is totally addictive.

My first taste of these cookies brought back a rush of memories. I had tried this cookie before, in Switzerland on a whim, I expect, as a treat that looked interesting. By the time I realized I really liked them, I had moved on to another country.

Many years later, sample packages of leckerli arrived at my door, and that rush of memory flooded my taste buds.

The first thing I noticed about the cookies is the thickness which was too tall for a gingerbread man and too short for a cake. They were firm to the touch but not hard. They were squeezable if you put your thumb into them.

You see white sugar splashes and almonds that tell you the bite is going to be interesting.

When you do take your first taste, you are very aware of the firmness, yet the bite is easy with the occasional crunch from the almonds. It takes more than one chew, which I am thankful for as it is so enjoyable to eat. To me, in many ways, this is the most addictive element of this cookie. It is super pleasurable!

The flavor showcases a wonderful blend of ingredients—honey, almonds, orange peel, lemon peel, kirsch, and spices—perfectly balanced. Not one element stands out over the others.

If you have just one a day, the larger offering will last you for 24 days. This assumes you don't share and can manage enough restraint to eat only one at a time. I ate 12 just writing about them. And now I need to eat 12 more to confirm my taste memory....

“Yuzu
Yuzu Ginger Blueberry Crisp
recipe

I like crisp because it is mostly a "take a bowl and mix" then combine and bake for about a quarter of a game on Sunday recipe.

See the Yuzu Ginger Blueberry Crisp recipe here!

“Yuzu
Yuzu no Megumi Syrup
A sweet treat of citrus!

The frosted glass bottle makes you want to hold it in your hand and rub the surface because it feels so good.

This delightful, sweetened liquid syrup is made with yuzu juice, citrus natsudaidai juice, granulated sugar, honey, and millet jelly.

Pop the top and take a very deep whiff. It is this enticing combination of citruses that creates a vapor that is super twisty. It is not easily describable yet very desirable.

Use it in mixed drinks, drinks of all kinds, any that would benefit from aromatic citrus with a little sweetness.

You could also add a splash to vinaigrettes and other dressings or to sauces to finish a dish. The possibilities are endless. You will be so happy with this yuzu treat that is so gosh darn delicious!

This is an essential pantry item for us now!

“Kitomura
Kitomura Organic Yuzu Marmalade
from Japan

There isn't a marmalade I haven't liked, and there have been so many I have loved in my life.

This one, today, is special.

One of the best things about marmalade, beyond the flavor, is the rind. The sharp bitterness contrasts with the sweetness of the jelly, which is what I like best. You get a chew that is solid and toothsome.

Sometimes, in a marmalade, a robust chunk has an appeal, like when a marmalade is paired with a succulent pork chop and mashed potatoes.

And sometimes, those big chunks just don't match the delicate pinky finger that is required when chowing down on an English muffin.

And this is where this YUZU marmalade excels. These mandolin-thin, delicate pieces are easy to chew, all the while imparting the bite of flavor one craves in anticipation you get from a citrus like this. If citrus candy came in a jar, this would be at every end-aisle display and register.

You get this wonderful citrus flavor that doesn't overwhelm and yet has enough gumption to stand up to an excellent slab of butter. The jelly, enrobing the peels nicely, carries the Yuzu nuances with just the right amount of contrasting sweetness.

And don't get wrapped up or embroiled with toast or muffins; this little jar and each careful slice are garnishes to consider for your next tray of bonbons or finger pastries. With tweezers in hand, curl and place to your heart's content a wonderful sliver of peel in just the right place!

Or, you can eat it all with a tiny spoon in no time....

“Peach,
Peach, Pecan, and Chocolate Crumble
recipe

This recipe is a Peach of an Adaption from Chef Paul Hollywood's (Great British Baking Show) cookbook, How to Bake. Use the fruit which is sweet right now. We are fans of the cookbook and figure if one day, well, it could come in handy to know how to cook everything in there....

“Caputo
Caputo "00" Chef's Flour
1 kilo from Italy

12-13% dry gluten content - and designed for home ovens and longer fermentation times.

This finely ground wheat flour from Italy, has a little more gluten than the Caputo Pizza Flour (a smart choice for those looking to make thin crust pizza!). Also can work for cakes and pastries, although generally you would be looking for a little less gluten (8-10%) when making pastries to get a gentle flake. The fine ground works well to get that light crumb on cakes. Try it!

“Lummi
Smoked Wild Keta Salmon
from Lummi Island

Keta Salmon's scientific name is Oncorhynchus keta, and has also been called chum. A salmon with lighter flesh color than the more familiar King and Sockeye is just as delicious, just different.

Less salmon'ee in flavor, it has good body and texture. Keta salmon spend 3 t0 4 years in the ocean before returning to the freshwater of their home to spawn.

This salmon is delicious not because it has the same flavor characteristics of a sockeye or a king but because as a fish it is quite delicious. When it comes out of the pouch it is soft and supple, the layers are flaky and the fork easily separates the body and the bite will delight

Perfect for a late night snack when no one else is around so you don't have to share or take it on a exclusive picnic by yourself or with one other.

This is a nice piece of fish. The added bonus is that it is shelf stable, perfect for taking it in the RV or on a camping trip. Keep a pouch in the glove box or your backpack ready for the next craving!

Salmon with Lemon Caper Sauce

“Belazu
Preserved Beldi Lemons!
Amazing versatility is this lemon!!

To make preserved lemons is easy. Salt, lemons, time.

Preserved lemons are a wonderful go-to addition to any recipe. Use them as a topping, an ingredient, or as a taste-changer. Anywhere you would use a regular lemon, you can use a preserved one for more punch and flavor. This intense concentration of flavor goes beyond just a lemon; it releases an explosion of flavor in your mouth!

The combination of salt, lemon, and time creates a flavor bomb when combined with chicken, for instance, bringing out the best in your poultry. Similar to sardines, another flavor enhancer bomb, it might not immediately appeal to all your senses, but once you incorporate a preserved lemon into your next dish, you might just discover a new love.

We like the Belazu Beldi Preserved Lemons because they are small, whole, and round like little globes. Smaller than a golf ball, they have a very thin skin that is easy to cut and chew. When used as a garnish, they look cute and gorgeous, elevating the presentation of any dish!

You can either make your own preserved lemons or try the Belazu Beldi Preserved Lemons. Preserved lemons are the ultimate combination of sourness, saltiness, and bitterness—a true flavor bomb!

Rice Bran Oil
The perfect size for the kitchen

Delicate, with virtually no flavor, rice bran oil just may be one of the world's healthiest edible oils.

Rice bran oil comes from the most nutritious part of the rice grain, loaded with monounsaturated fats & polyunsaturated fats, as well as vitamin E. These are the good fats that help your body lose weight.

Which means that Non-GMO rice bran oil is not only nutritious but a superior salad, cooking, baking, and frying oil that leaves no lingering aftertaste.

Extremely versatile, rice bran oil is an excellent choice for baking as well as just about any cooking method, from deep-frying to pan-frying, sauteing to stir-frying, baking to grilling.

Smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon
from the Northwest!

This pouch of salmon is almost like cooking your own piece of fish. Not only is this wonderful sockeye, it is caught in one of the most special unique ways of fishing in the world.

The first thing you notice when you open the package is how soft the fish is. Unlike canned salmon or canned tuna this piece of salmon is gentle, soft and just right.

There's just a tiny hint of smoke, it's there, just the right amount. The liquid in the pouch is small, but worth keeping to add to the lentils or rice you might be having.

Plan on savoring and enjoying every little bite that you take because it could easily disappear before you know it.

Plan for a super duper picnic with a cracker and a loved one.

Or, as a perfect nighttime treat with a little bit of rice or toast.

Pair it with something smooth like a peach or to have with a slice of avocado.

This sockeye salmon has a good flavor, like an excellent canned salmon, but different.

Ed Fretwell Soup Recipe

Molly's book, A Homemade Life, is a great read. Made even better by the many recipes included through out the book. A perfect vacation companion for any foody.

This homemade bean soup recipe is from a neighbor - Ed Fretwell. Brought to the family in a time of need. I personally love bean-based soups. They are hearty, and healthy.

Whole Onions Glazed With Honey Recipe

Whole caramelized onions are used as a garnish for roasted meats or birds, served with sauteed potatoes and a comforting red wine from a sunny place, a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, for example. The key to successfully caramelizing onions is to take your time. the end result, though, is amazing and a wonderful side, especially if you like sweet onions.

Muscovado & Mustard Dressing Recipe

We made this quick dressing to go with our Easter ham. It was a big hit! It's also delicious on mashed or roasted potatoes.

Gather your ingredients, whisk them together and you're ready to eat! Simple it may be, but this dressing adds complex and irresistible flavor to any dish!
