Meet a VitaFriend
My name is Cathy Sue Keesler, and I reside in Equinunk, PA with my husband Johnnie of 13 years. I was diagnosed with PKU when I was born. I have nine brothers and sisters, and two of my sisters also have been diagnosed with PKU.
 Unfortunately, my sister Robin was not diagnosed until later on in life and has been diagnosed with brain damage from having PKU. She has struggled her whole life. She was not able to sit up by herself until the age of 3 and she wasn’t able to walk until the age of 7. At age 9, Robin was admitted to White Haven Hospital where she is currently residing. Robin is now 47 and my parents visit her faithfully.
My sister Annie was also diagnosed at birth with PKU. We were on the special PKU diet up until the age of 5. Annie and I have struggled together with the PKU diet, but we are such a great support team together. At the age of 23, I was able to go back on the diet and I have been on it ever since. It is so hard to try to eat the right foods and it is even harder to find something refreshing to drink that tastes good.
